Pudlo Pudlat (1916-1992) began his artistic career in the 1950s when he moved to the Kinngait (Cape Dorset) area. He didn’t settle on drawing and printmaking until 1959-1960. His style is original and often contains subtle inclusions of humour. Umingmuk, 1970 is a powerful stonecut image that juxtaposes the texture of the muskox with the flatness of the printed surface and there is an undeniable element of playfulness in this work.
